Crafty Secrets DT Challenge

September 29, 2008

Vicki Chrisman our DT leader has given our DT Team another challenge this month. Challenge is for us to use the Artsy Alphabet stamp set in a project. So, for this challenge I have made 2 projects. Guess what, it is not a card.

First one is a Journal Book entitled "Journal of Hope". I bought this pink journal book at the clearance section of Michael's for $1. Not a bad deal. I immediately thought of doing something for the upcoming 'Run for the Cure' that is happening this coming weekend, October 5th. My daughter Nicole is joining her co-worker's from La Vie en Rose in an effort to raise money for this worthy cause. If any of you would like to support a participant like my daughter you can do that online here. Now back to my project. I covered the front of the pink journal with DP from the Radiant Paper Designs of Crafty Secrets. Stamped Journal of Hope with the Artsy Alphabet stamp set on a pink cs with Walnut Stain Distress Ink. Sponged the edges with the same Distress Ink. Mounted the Pink cs on Gold cs. Stamped the 'J' on a another pink cs and cut it out and distressed the edges with a distressing tool and sponged some more Walnut Stain. Cut a strip from another DP from the Radiant Paper Designs and glued it to the left side of the journal. Layered some Prima flowers and held it together with a pink brad and glued it to the left bottom portion. Added some green punch ferns to the flowers. Stamped 2x the pink ribbon from the Support the Girls stamp set(symbol for many Breast Cancer causes) on pink cs and added some clear liquid embossing and cut it out with scissors and mounted it on top of the flowers and to the top of the title. On a pink tag, stamped some more ribbons in pink and Support the Girls in Walnut stain. On another DP stamped the image of the bra, cut it out and mounted it on to the tag. Then tied a pink polka dotted ribbon to the tag. Stamped the image of the girl on white cs and on DP from Crafty Secrets. Colored the body with Skin White Copic markers and cut out the underwear from the DP and glue it onto to the white cs.

Stamp: Artsy Alphabet and Support the Girls Crafty Secrets Clear Art Stamps
Paper: DP from the Radiant Paper Designs of Crafty Secrets
Ink: Walnut Stain Distress Ink, Onyx Black Versafine and Copic markers
Accessories: Prima flowers, pink brad, clear liquid embossing, distressing tool and punch ferns

For my second project I made a picture frame. Used a picture frame from the $ section at Michael's. First of all, I painted the frame with a peachy pink acrylic paint. Let it dry. Then cut the DP from the Classic Paper Design of Crafty Secrets in an oval shape. Glued it to the frame. Outlined the edges with a gold gel pen. Stamped a small flourish border stamp from the Frame It stamp collection all along the edge of the oval frame that did not have any paper with Walnut stain Distress Ink. Added a sheer ribbon on the bottom on the frame. Stamped the Rose from the Cherish Stamp set 6x on white cs with Walnut Stain. Colored the rose with Rose Tombow marker and added clear liquid embossing. Set aside to dry. Once dry, used scissors to cut the whole rose and also the layers. Mounted the different layers on top of the ribbon and added some punch ferns. For the top of the frame, added some DP from the Classic Paper design onto a chipboard piece. Stamped the letter MOM with stamps from the Artsy Alphabet set with Walnut stain on another DP. Topped it off with clear liquid embossing and let dry. Once dry, mounted it onto the covered chipboard, added the other rose layers and finished it off with some punched ferns. I will add a picture of my mom to the frame and with update this blog once done.

Enjoy the Journey

September 23, 2008

Another Tuesday has come and there is another challenge over at the Crafty Secret Forum at Splitcoast Stampers. Today's host is Joanne, who has challenged us to make something to reflect the theme of 'going places'.

For this challenge I made a tag using the Journey Stamp collection of Crafty Secrets Clear Art Stamps. Distressing technique used to make this tag is taken from Tim Hotlz Blog.

First stamped the image of the globe and compass with Broken China on a shipping tag. Then covered the stamped images with clear embossing powder and heat embossed it with a Heat It Craft tool. Distressed the tag with Broken China, Shabby Shutters, Peeled Paint and Walnut Stain by using a sponge. Then stamped the images of the ticket, binoculars, plane and sentiment with Black Soot. Covered the tag with a brown paper bag and ran a heated craft iron on the brown paper to remove the embossed parts of the tag. Used a distressing tool along the edges of the tag to further distress it. Inked the edges with Walnut Stain.

Here are 2 cards made with the same stamps and paper.

First card is for the Wednesday Sketch challenge over at Splitcoast Gallery. Used a stamp from the Vintage Christmas stamp collection of Crafty Secrets Clear Art Stamps. Cut the cs in rectangle shape and distressed the edges by sponging Walnut Stain Distress Ink. Main image was mounted onto a green distressed cs. Used left over Christmas paper from last year to follow the sketch. Used rub-ons from America Crafts miniMARKS for the Sentiment.

The second card was made for Beate's weekned sketch challenge which you can find here. Used the same image and stamping technique as the first card above and used the same left over Christmas paper. For the sentiment I used another stamp also from the Vintage Christmas collection, which I stamped with Black Soot and colored the pinecones and Holly leaves with copic markers. ATC Art

September 16, 2008

This is an ATC card that I made for the Tuesday challenge at the Crafty Secret Forum over at Splitcoast stampers. The challenge is to make and ATC card using three things that start with the letter 'P'. I haven't made to many ATC cards and this is about the 4th one that I have managed to make. Started of by cutting an image from the Birds & Botanicals Images & Journal Note with a postage stamp scissors (first 'P'). Mounted that on an ATC card that was distressed with Walnut Stain Distressing Ink. Cut out the letters 'A', 'R' and 'T' from the Divine Alphabets & More and glued it to the right side of the card. Stuck a rectangular page pebble (second 'P') on the letter 'R'. Used stickles to glitter some of the flowers in the image. Cut out a piece of pink paper ribbon (third 'P') and glued it to the bottom of the card. Stuck a Prima flower to one of the flower images with a half pearl (oops fourth and fifth 'P') and final touch to the card was a gold butterfly on top of the butterfly image that was on the paper. So I cheated and used 5 'P' in this card. The more the merrier.

Paper: Divine Alphabets & More and Birds & Botanicals Images & Journal Notes from Crafty Secrets
Accessories: Half Pearl, Prima Flower, Pink paper ribbon, page pebble, gold butterfly and stickles

Glittery Happy Birthday

September 15, 2008

Here is a card made for the Try a New Technique challenge over at Splitcoast Stampers. Today's technique to try out is to use glitter with your background stamp.

For the background of this card I used a stamp from All Night Media - The Netherlands by Anaa Griffin. Used Palette Stamp and Stick Gluepad on the background stamp and stamped on a Rose colored cs. Heated the image with a Heat It Craft Tool until it got sticky and the poured Rose Copper Glitter Ritz. Tapped out the excess glitter and set it aside for a little bit. Stamped the Azalea on white cs with Jet Black Impress Ink and then colored the flower with Copic markers. Cut it to an oval shape with an oval Coluzzle and then matted it on to a light green Bazzil cs that was cut with an Oval Scallop Nestabilities. Heavily sponged around the scalloped area with Certainly Celery. Then made a glitter panel by using double sided tape and more Rose Copper Glitter Ritz. Burnished the glitter to let the shine come out. Adhered the glittered pieces to a light green Bazzil cs that was sponged with Certainly Celery. Then used double-sided foam tape to add dimension to the Azalea image. Stamped Happy Birthday on another piece of light green Bazzil cs and mounted the whole piece to the Rose based card. For the finishing touch added ribbon between the glittered pieces.

Stamps: Azalea and The Netherlands
Ink: Jet Black Impress, Certainly Celery and various Copic markers
Paper: Rose cs, Rose and Light Green Bazzil cs and white cs

Just Imagine

September 9, 2008

Well another Tuesday is here, and it is the day that we have a challenge over at the Crafty Secrets forum at Splitcoast Stampers. Today's challenge is hosted by the talented Darlene, who has challenged us to use ANGLES on your cards/projects.

For this challenge I used a page from the 'Little Dolls Images & Journal Notes' of Crafty Secrets. This booklet is filled with adorable images, easy to use for a quick card of project. It even includes some journaling lines that matches the main image. The page I used consists of the image of the child in bed and the bottom part is an image of a half turned page along with some journaling lines. I cut apart the 2 images and cut a slit were the turned up page ends. I inserted the main image of the child into the slit, then mounted it to a creamy caramel sponged cs which was sorrounded with a creamy brown vintage lace. I then glued the image to the DP taken from the Classic Paper Designs collection of Crafty Secrets. Sponged the edges of the DP with creamy caramel and then adhered it to the base of the creamy caramel card. Ifinished the card of with some layered Prima flowers which was held together with a glazed designer brad from BasicGrey. Added some punched out fern leaves underneath the flower (first saw this fern leaf technique from Markie's mom, aka Faith)

Ink: Creamy Caramel
Paper: Little Dolls Images and Journal Notes and Classic Paper Designs from Crafty Secrets

Here is a card I made for Beate's Weekend Sketch Challenge. Every Friday, Beate posts a new sketch on her blog. Go check it out, she has lots of great sketches.

Image of the cat was stamped on white cs with Jet Black Impress ink. Then colored with Skin White, Cream and Pale Sepia Copic markers. I first colored the whole cat image with Skin White, then with Cream and leaving just a little of the skin white. Went over the whole image again with skin white to blend in the 2 colors. Then colored just the edges of the image with Pale Sepia and again went over the Pale Sepia with the Cream to blend in the colors. I then cut out the image and mounted it on to a 2-1/4 x 2-1/4" white cs that I sponge on the edges with Dark Moss and stamped the 'purrr' also with dark moss. This was mounted on to a solid dp from the Sugared collection of BasicGrey. All background paper is from this same collection. For the striped strip of dp, I ran a double sided tape and glittered the strip with Pastel Crystal and rubbed the glitter to let it shine more. This technique is called 'burnished velvet'. I then added some brads along the glitter.
